Playbook: inspect a new supplier's first deliveries

The situation

You have placed the first order with a new plastics supplier. They have no quality record with you: no inspections, no defect rate. When the goods arrive, they would be put away like any other receipt and drawn into the next build — and if they are out of spec, the operator finds out first.

The screenshots come from the Otiox demo workspace. To follow along, choose Switch to demo in the sidebar — changes there never touch your live data.

Step 1 — See the new supplier

Go to Predictive insights. Under Supplier quality → production at risk, the card New supplier — run trial QC shows the supplier with 0 inspections.

Step 2 — Turn on QC on receipt

Choose Run trial QC on receipt and confirm. Otiox switches on QC on receipt for that supplier for the next receipt. You can see and change the setting on the supplier's page, under Quality control on receipt — for the next N receipts, or for every receipt.

Step 3 — Receive the goods

Receive the purchase order as usual. Because the supplier requires QC on receipt, Otiox opens an inspection for the received line and holds the goods in quarantine.

Receiving: an inspection is opened and the goods are held until approved

The goods cannot be used until the inspection is approved. Approving it in Quality Control releases the quarantine; rejecting it keeps the goods out of production. After the receipts you set, the rule switches itself off.

What you have at the end

  • A new supplier's first deliveries inspected before anyone uses them.
  • A defect history that starts on the first receipt.
  • The rule stored on the supplier, not in someone's memory.
